Those Yankee Bonds from Across the River

Backgound - Who are they and why are they shown here?

Often, the only way to do a complete and thorough genealogy of a family in an area is to do the generalogies of every family (or at least every family of similar surname) in that area.  In this case, the Bond family of Carroll Co., KY is my family.  Many of their photographs shown on other pages of this website bear the imprint of Huddleston, New Castle, Ind.  This despite the fact that New Castle, IN is on the opposite side of the Ohio River as is Carrollton, KY.  There are two possibilities: either the Kentucky Bonds regularly took a ferry across the river to the studio of Huddleston in New Castle, or Huddleston regularly brought a portion of his studio across the river to Carrollton.  The later is more likely, in that it wasn't that Carrollton did not have any photographers.  In this scenerio, Huddleston would have set up a temporary studio in a hotel room or rented business, advertised the dates during which he would operating, and waited for patrons to show up.  He would have had a painted backdrop in either case, so the resulting photographs would have looked the same regardless of where exposed.

I was pleasantly surprised in 2022 to find 11 cabinet cards and CDVs identified as Bond for sale on eBay.  One was identified as Will C. Bond, a name I remembered from my Carrollton Bonds, and some had Huddleston imprints.  Naturally, I snapped them up, as photos rounding out the considerable images on this website.  Imagine my surprise to find out that these Bonds come from a line tracing back to North Carolina and eventually to Wiltshire, England, whereas my line traces back to the Virginia colony, but cannot as yet be traced to England.  Before I actually did the genealogical work, I happened to do a search on Bond and New Castle, and found 7 more of the same family.

Of the 19 photos here, 14 were purchased from one eBay dealer and 5 from another - both located in Pennsylvania.  The handwriting on the backs that identify the subjects of the photos is consistent amont the first 14, written by one person, and therefore probably from one family.  A clue to who had the photos is given by a reference to "Grandpa Bond) on the back of Image #INBond-06.  The writer is could therefore probably one of Calvin Bond's grandchildren.  Another clue is the large number of Clara Flora (Bond) Fairfield images, most of which are identified as Flora Bond or C. Flora Bond - not Flora Fairfield, implying that the writer is a sibling, not one of Flora's children, who would have thought of her as Fairfield.  Additionally, the name Jean Elliott Bond (one of said grandchildren of Calvin Bond) is written out, so the owner is probably not her.  Of the three children of Clara Flora (Bond) Fairfield, only one, Edith May, survived infantcy, so she is a possibility; she married Raymond August Fuller and moved to California; the original 14 images do not include one of Edition, although she appears in the second group of 4 images.  Clara Flora Bond's only sibling that survived to adulthood was William C., who married Mary Elliott and had one child, Jean Elliot Bond.  Both Mary (Elliott) Bond and Jean Elliot Bond appear in the group of 14 images.  The owner and writer of those photos is most likely Mary (Elliott) Bond, although this is anything but certain.

Conventions below are as follows:

1.  the facts below are based in off-white (off-white, not pure white, so that it may be printed as black on white) medium size typing.

2.  a person's name and their birth and death dates are shown in light green, italic, medium size type.

3.  the name of a person whose image appears in the photographs in light green, italic, large size type.

4.  headings are in bold, light green, italic, xxlarge size type.

The cards are presented in four parts - each part represents cards (mostly) that came from a different eBay seller (which may, therefore, have originated with a more or less single source within the families), or images that are uniquie (the gem tintype images).  These are arbitrary separations, since the families are so interconnected, there is no actual separations.  The sections are: 1) Clara Florence Bond and her Extended Family, 1875-1902; 2) 9 "Gem" Tintypes, c.1867-c.1872, Bond family and Fuller family; 3) Cartes de Visite, 1863 - c.1874, Fuller family; and 4) Lucius Henry Fuller, mainly, 1859-c.1920

Clara Florence Bond and her family, 1875-1902

Bond Families

Clara Florence "Flora"Bond (07 MAY 1857, New Castle, Henry Co., IN - 21 OCT 1900, Dunkirk, Jay Co., IN) seems to be the nexus of the many of the photos - six of the first 11 were of her as a young woman.  I think that trove of 11 photos possibly came from her mother, because her photos are early in her life and adulthood, and there are no photos of her husband, and there are no photos of her in middle age.  She died when rather young from a stroke at the age of 43.

Flora married, on  05 SEP 1877 in New Castle, Henry Co., IN, Barton Warren Stone Fairfield (17 APR 1849, Amelia, Clermont Co., Ohio - 12 SEP 1918, Palo Alto, San Mateo Co., CA.  His parents were Lorenzo Dow Fairfield (21 NOV 1819, Amelia, Clermont Co., OH - 03 AUG 1886, Amelia, Clermont Co., OH) and Tabitha Jeffries (12 AUG 1823, Belmont Co., OH - 30 SEP 1882, Clermont Co., OH).

Flora and Barton Fairfield had three children:

      1) Edith May Fairfield (6 SEP 1883, Fargo, Cass Co., ND - 28 JUN 1964, Contra Costa Co., CA).  She married, 9 Jun 1906, in Los Angeles Co., CA, Raymond August Fuller (7 Aug 1881, Putnam, Windham Co., CT - 20 Nov 1969, Walnut Creek, Contra Costa Co., CA)

Fuller

Raymond August Fuller was the son of Lucius Henry Fuller (31 Aug 1849, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT - 16 Mar 1933, Putnam, Windham Co., CT), son of Lucius Seymour Fuller (27 Mar 1812, Hampton, Windham Co., CT - 14 Nov 1890, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT) and Mary Eliza Bliss (Birth 27 APR 1812, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT - 25 SEP 1899, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT).

Lucius Henry Fuller married, 1st, on 31 Aug 1871, in Plainfield, Windham Co., CT, Helen Averill Briggs (16 Feb 1847, Pomfret, Windham Co., CT - 21 May 1875, Putnam, Windham Co., CT).  He married, 2nd, on 30 Jun 1880, in Springfield, Hampden Co., MA, Alice "Abby" Clara Cundall (17 Jul 1851, Springfield, Hampden Co., MA - 10 Nov 1884, Putnam, Windham Co., CT)

Cundall

Alice Cundall's parents were: Joseph William Cundall (3 May 1826, Brooklyn, Windham Co., CT - 18 Jan 1919, Worcester, Worcester Co., MA) and Abigail Newell (Fisher) Cundall (3 Jul 1826, Thompson, Windham Co., CT - 12 Jun 1904, Worcester, Worcester Co., MA).  They had children: 1) Alice "Abbie" Clara Cundall (17 Jul 1851, Springfield, Hampden Co., MA - 10 Nov 1884, Putnam, Windham Co., CT), 2) William Joseph Cundall ( 17 Feb 1853, Springfield, Hampden Co., MA - 1 Apr 1934, South Bend, Pacific Co., WA), 3) Charles Lombard Cundall (27 May 1854, Springfield, Hampden Co., MA - 16 Feb 1915, Worcester, Worcester Co., MA), and 4) Harriet "Hattie" Cundall (4 May 1856, Springfield, Hampden Co., MA - 1940).  Harriet married, first in 1881, Arthur Herman Watrous (1854-1885), and married, second in 1901, John D. Cummings (~1842 - ?).

      2) Earl Bond Fairfield (14 FEB 1887, Fargo, Cass Co., ND - 30 JUL 1887, Fargo, Cass Co., ND)

Flora's aunt, Mary Ann (Bond) Garretson's entry in the 1900 census, District 0091, Fall Creek, Madison Co., IN (p. 17 of 33, ancestry.com) as:

Carrie is her daughter from her first husband Jessie G. Wickersham.  Walter Cammack is the son of James Cammack (b.~1827, IN) and Susan H.W. (b.~1834,OH).  James,23 in 1850 in Wayne Co., IN, is with Elizabeth 22 OH [wife] and Sally 25 IN.

Notice that the photographer of this card is "Cammack, Oskaloosa, Iowa".  In the  1900 census, District 0088, Cedar Rapids, Linn Co., IA is:

Charles is no doubt the Cammack who took Flora Bond Fairfield's portrait about 1895.  It would seem that he is related to Walter Cammack, and naturally took a photo of Flora as she visited her aunt in Iowa.

 - Cabinet Card, c.1890 (based upon her apparent age):  Mary Ann (Bond) Garretson (25 NOV 1833, New Castle, Henry, IN - 14 JAN 1914, Henry Co., IN).  She married first on 14 Aug 1851 in Henry Co., IN Jesse C. Wickersham (8 AUG 1828, PA - Bef. 1870, Lee Co., IA), with whom she had two children: Lee W. (m) (~1859-?) and Carrie Mae (17 SEP 1861, Keokuk, Lee Co., IA - 7 AUG 1940, Los Angeles Co., CA).  Mary Ann Bond married second on 29 Jun 1875 in New Castle, Henry Co., IN Joel Garretson (6 Feb 1818, Stark Co., OH - 8 Jul 1892, Pendleton, Madison Co., IN).

The front is printed: "Cammack, Oskaloosa, Iowa".  The back is inscribed in pencil; "Aunt Mary Bond Garretson".  The back is also inscribed in black ink: "Grandfather Bond's Sister  Grandmother of Fern Cammack Lynn".

This ink inscription is written in a neat, backward-slanting hand, similar to many of the inscribed cards in the first 19, wherever purchased.  The capital "B" in this inscription is different (looped more) than the "B"'s on the other cards, so either there are two different inscribers having extremely similar backward-slanting penmanship, or, more likely, there is only one inscriber (and identifier) that wrote the capital "B" two ways.

The pencil inscription is written from the viewpoint of Clara Flora Bond, in that Mary Ann Bond was her aunt.  The ink inscription is written from the viewpoint of the Fern (Cammack) Lind (mis-spelled as "Lynn" on the card).  Jessie Fern Cammack (27 Apr 1890, Kokomo, Howard Co., IN - 21 Feb 1975, Oroville, Butte Co., CA) married on 15 Sep 1921, Hardin Co., IA Lafayette Albert Lind ( 14 Dec 1893, Des Moines, Boone Co., IA - 02 Apr 1952, Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., CA.  Fern Cammack was the daughter of Carrie Mae Wickersham (1861-1940), above, and Walter Raleigh Cammack (20 Oct 1856, Atalissa, Muscatine Co., IA - 25 Mar 1949, Houston, Harris Co., TX).

The photographer is Cammack (as in images INBond-04, INBond-19 and INBond-20), i.e., Charles Cammack, a professional photographer who, at times, operated in Oskaloosa, Iowa, New Castle, Indiana, and Kokomo, Indiana.

The front is printed: "Cammack, Kokomo".  The back is not inscribed, so the subject is not identified.  The photographer is Cammack, like IMG #INBond-04, i.e., Charles Cammack.

The identity of probably Phebe Bond is based on a familial resemblance to three other children of Enos B. Bond: Calvin Bond, Mary Ann (Bond) Garretson, and Hannah V.      The card is printed on the front: "Rice, 311 Main Street, Worcester, Mass."

The card is also printed on the back: "The Leading Photographer / Instantaneous / Portraits of Children a Successful Specialty / Art Studio / Duplicates can be had at any time / Crayons, Inks and Pastels a Specialty / One Flight Only".  There is a blank spot in the middle, apparently where the name of the photographer should be stamped, but it was not done on this card.

The back is inscribed in pencil: "Jos. Cundall / Hattie (Cundall) Watrous Cummings / Raymond Fuller / Abigail Cundall", with the names places approximately where the individuals are on the front.  Joseph and Abigail Cundall are Raymond Fuller's grandparents, and Hattie Cummings is his aunt.  His mother Alice (Cundall) Fuller, died in 1884, when he was three.  He appears to be about 7 years old here, so the photo is c.1888.

Hattie Cundall married 1st, 11 May 1881 in Worcester Co., MA, Arthur Herman Watrous (1854-1885).  She married 2nd, 6 Jun 1901 in Worcester Co., MA, John D. Cummings (Oct 1841, Turin, New York - 1913, Worcester Co., MA).  John married 1st, 29 Aug 1861, Plainfield, Washington Co., VT, Laura C. Hooker (1842-1894), living in Barre, Washington Co., VT in the 1880 census with their child, Delphina (1863-1894).  He is buried in Barre, with his first wife and daughter.  When his first wife died, he was living in Worcester, MA.

The identifications on the back had to have been added after Hattie's 1901 Cummings marriage.

Images INBond-62, INBond-63, and INBond-64 have three different photographer's markings, even though all are in Worcester, MA.  Usually, people have their favorite photographer, but the Cundalls apparently didn't.

Jesse A. Elliott, born in North Carolina, appears to be distantly related to the other Elliotts shown here, having a common ancestor as far back as 1700 or earlier.

They were the eldest two children of Dr. Otho Pearre Fairfield (25 Oct 1863, Amelia, Clermont Co., OH - 18 Apr 1958, Orange Co., FL) and Clara Ada Hutson ( 8 Aug 1867, Owensville, , IN - 17 Jan 1947, Alfred, Allegany Co., NY).  They are buried in Appleton, Outagamie Co., WI.

IMG #INBond-36- 4x3" photo mounted on a 5x6" card, 7 Nov 1902 (written on back): the four surviving offspring of Josiah Fairfield (20 Mar 1785, Kennebunk, York Co., ME - 20 Jul 1874, Amelia, Clermont Co., OH) and Sarah Huff (1749, Arundel, York Co., ME - 1817, Kennebunkport, York Co., ME).  Josiah and Sarah were the parents of eleven children, including Lorenzo Dow Fairfield and Cyrus Fairfield, whose photos are above.

The four surviving siblings in 1902 are:
Back left:  Emeline "Emily" (Fairfield) Edwards (2 Dec 1825, Amelia, Clermont Co., OH - 4 Apr 1908, Clermont Co., OH), wife of George Darlington Edwards.
Back right:  Samuel Roger Fairfield (27 Feb 1824, Amelia, Clermont Co., OH - 4 Nov 1924, Merom, Sullivan Co., IN).
Front left:
Cyrus Fairfield (14 Dec 1817, Amelia, Clermont Co., OH - 21 Jan 1904, Merom, Sullivan Co., IN).
Front right:  Asenath Martin (Fairfield) Bragdon (28 Sep 1830, Amelia, Clermont Co., OH - 3 Feb 1911, Merom, Sullivan Co., IN).  She married Thomas Jotham Bragdon.

The front of the card is embossed: "Plunkett, Sullivan, Indiana".

The back of the card is inscribed in black ink by the ubiquitous writter with the backward slanting penmanship (visible on the photo): "Aunt Emmeline / Uncle Roger / and Uncle Cyrus Fairfield / Nov. 7th, 1902".  She missed one, but from the way Emmeline and Roger are listed, it is apparent that they are the back row, and Cyrus and the missed aunt are in the front row.  The only other aunt still alive in 1902 is Asenath.  The writer refers to these as aunts and uncles - they are undoubtedly in-law aunts and uncles rather than blood aunts and uncles.

The back is also incscribed in pencil (only visible in slanting light): "Dec. 14, 1902     Cyrus will be 85 / Feb. 7, 1903     Roger will be 79 / Dec. 2, 1902     Emmeline will be 77 / Sep. -      Asenath will be 74".  This person (different than the neat ink writer, got all four names, but didn't remember that Asenath's birthday was Sep. 28.

The Reas, cards #INBond-17 and #INBond-18, apparently have no genealogical connection to Clara Flora Bond, or any other name here.

INBond-18-both-'Gramma' Rea (Mary E. (Remby) Rea)-1897-750.jpg

MG #INBond-18 - Cabinet Card, 1897 (assumed to be taken at the same time as #INBond-17):  Mary E. (Remby) Rea (05 Apr 1829, Salem, Essex Co., MA - 24 Apr 1889, Henry Co., IN), wife of Dr. John R. Rea.  The front is embosed: "Huddleston, New Castle, Ind."  The back is inscribed in pencil: " 'Gramma' Rea".

The Reas, cards #INBond-17 and #INBond-18, apparently have no genealogical connection to Clara Flora Bond, or any other name here.

Cards #INBond-17 and #INBond-18 were purchased with cards #INBond-15 and #INBond-16, the cards featuring Edith Fairfield and Jean Bond (#16) and Catherine Elliot and Albert Rea Elliot (#15).  Any one of these four small children may have thought of Mrs. Rea as "Gramma Rea", but it is more likely that the two Elliot children, one of whom has the middle name of Rea, would have thought of her as such.

9 "Gem" Tintypes, c.1867-c.1872, Bond family and Fuller family

The tintypes all have similar, but not identical, decoratively embossed cards.  The rectangular, sheet-metal photographic prints are each mounted behind an oval cut-out in the card, and fixed in place by a piece of light yellow, transparent, tape.  Even though very similar, they were taken by at least two photographers, Oliver in Rome, NY and Wood (Wood's Gallery) in Albany, NY.  Rome (Oneida Co.) is about 110 miles west of Albany.

All eight of the tintypes were purchased from the same eBay vendor, and there is every reason to assume that they were obtained from the same person/family, in that three of the photos are of Clara Florence (Bond) Fairfield (see the above table) and three are of Lucius Henry Fuller, who are in-laws, in that their children, Edith Fairfield and Raymond Fuller, married.

One of the mysteries concerning these photos to be solved is that neither the Bonds, nor the Fullers apparently ever lived in New York, where the photos were taken.  To be sure, there are Bond and Fuller families in upper New York state (both being names in America since Puritan times), but they do not connect with our particular lines of Bond and Fuller back to hundreds of years earlier.  The Bonds lived in Indiana and the Fullers lived in Connecticutt, apparently up to the time they both moved to California, where their children were married in 1906.  So far, there is no reason to think they knew each other around 1870, except that that is when these tintypes were taken.

INBond-23-all-Lucius Henry Fuller (1849-1933)-c.1872-750.jpg
IMG #INBond-23 - Ninth-plate (2"x2½") Tintype, c.1872:  Lucius Henry Fuller (31 Aug 1849, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT - 16 Mar 1933, Putnam, Windham Co., CT).  The mount has no photographer identification.  The back of the card is inscribed in pencil: "Lucius H. Fuller".

This is the Lucius Henry Fuller that was born in Connecticutt.  There is another Lucius Henry Fuller (1848-1910) - almost the same age as the Connecticutt Lucius Henry Fuller.  This other Lucius was born and lived in Cortland Co. in upstate New York, much nearer to Rome, NY and Albany, NY, where the tintypes were taken, than are Indiana or Connecticutt.  But the Connecticutt Lucius Henry Fuller has had numerous photographs taken or engravings done in his lifetime (not to mention the CDVs of he and his father Lucius Seymour Fuller, shown in the third table of photos, below), and there is no doubt that it is the Connecticutt Lucius in these tintypes and other photos.

The year assigned this photo is c.1872, the same as determined for a tintype of the William Clement Bond (1848-1950), the brother of Clara Florence Bond.  William appears to be about 14 years old in that photo.  Lucius could be anywhere in his 20s or 30s, but has a blue tint on his tie that is identical to that on William - therefore, they were probably tinted by the same person on the same day - c.1872.

He is wearing a different tie and vest than in INBond-27, but his hair is about the same length, so perhaps taken days apart, but not years.

That this is Clara Florence Bond's brother was determined by looking at similarities to here many images here, as well as comparing to his later image (INBond-05).  In fact, after learning from Flora Bond's photos, a facial recognition AI program (Phototheca X) tagged this photo as being Flora.  The comparison of INBond-25 to INBond-05 is shown below.

William appears to be about 14 years old, so that this photo is thought to be c.1872.  There is only one William photo, whereas his sister has three photos apparently from two visits to New York c.1867 and c.1872.  Did he come both times, or only once?

IMG #INBond-24 - Ninth-plate (2"x2½") Tintype, c.1867 (based upon her apparent age):  Clara Florence "Flora" Bond (07 May 1857, New Castle, Henry Co., IN - 21 OCT 1900, Dunkirk, Jay Co., IN), age about 10.

Since she is clearly younger here than in her other two tintypes (INBond-28 and INBond-30), the tintypes had to have been taken on two different trips to New York.  She lived in Indiana during the 1870 census, which is probably between the two periods of the tintypes.

The image below the tintype images is a comparison of the writing on the back of INBond-02 and INBond-22.  Obviously, these identifications were writen by the same person even though they were purchased from two different eBay retailers, and presumably arrived at the retailers through different paths.

I originally thought that all the tintypes had been taken at one time, and that INBond-28 and INBond-30 were of a woman older than Flora, but the AI facial recognition program tagged them as Flora.  Upon a second and third look, I agree with the AI.

INBond-28 and INBond-30 are clearly the same woman, who is wearing a hair band for the sittings.  In INBond=28, she has added a hat and a fur collared coat over her white blouse.

One might wonder why I think this is Flora and Will's mother.  Simply that they had to have been taken on this trip to upstate New York by someone, and the mother is the obvious choice.  For some kind (any kind) of confirmation, I compared her image to that of her sister,

It isn't clear how or why Cyrus Fairfield would be in this group of tintypes, but it sure appears to be him, even down to where the wrinkles are on his forehead.  Maybe there was a connection of Bonds and Fairfields in Ohio during this period.

Cartes de Visite, 1863 - c.1874, Fuller family

Just three subjects: Lucius Seymour Fuller (27 Mar 1812, Hampton, Windham Co., CT - 14 Nov 1890, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT), his son, Lucius Henry Fuller (31 Aug 1849, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT - 16 Mar 1933, Putnam, Windham Co., CT), and Lucius Henry's second wife, Alice "Abby" Clara Cundall (17 Jul 1851, Springfield, Hampden Co., MA - 10 Nov 1884, Putnam, Windham Co., CT).

These photos were bought from the same eBay vender, yet not the vender of the original Bond photos above.  If there was a doubt originally which Lucius Henry Fuller is in the photos above - the one from Connecticutt (b.1848) or the one from New York (b.1849), this series of photos proves it, by having assiciated photos of the father and second wife of the Connecticutt Lucius Henry.

DeLamater, Photographer, Hartford, CT / Beautiful Stereoscopic Views of Hartford & Vicinity For Sale / Unequaled Facilities for Making Residence and Landscape Views"

The photograph is not marked with the subject, but the identity is known from the many tintypes above.  He appears to be no more than about 21 years old.

In this photo, he appears to be slightly older than in INBond-42, above.  It may be from around the time of his first marriage in 1874..

In this photo, she appears to be 20 or maybe a few years older.  It may have been taken from around the time of her marriage in 1874..

Lucius Henry Fuller, mainly, 1859-c.1920

These images date from 1859, a cabinet card reprint of an earlier photo when he was about 10 years old, to c.1920, about a decard before Lucius's death.  The cards were all from the same eBay vender, so are kept together here.  Furthermore, the backs have been inscribed, usually with only initials, by one person's handwriting - the person doing the identifying is unknown.

You will note that some of these are marked with photographers working out "The Fuller Building, Putnam, Connecticutt".  It is not a stretch to imaging Lucius Henry Fuller working in the same building, stepping down from time to time to the resident photographer to imortalize his image.

Sometime between 1881 and about 1900, he underwent a large weight gain.  About the same time, he cut off his large mustache.  After about 1895, he had a mustache again, but also had elaborate muttonchops as well, continuing until the photos end at about 1920-1930.

IMG #INBond-44 - Cabinet Card, c.1890 (copy of c.1859): Left to Right, Lucius Henry Fuller (31 Aug 1849, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT - 16 Mar 1933, Putnam, Windham Co., CT), John Bliss Fuller (16 FEB 1845, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT - 21 JAN 1883), and Edward Eugene Fuller (13 MAY 1853, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT - 22 AUG 1932, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT)

The bck of the card is printed: "G.M. Bolton, Rockville, Conn."  The back is also is inscribed in pencil: "Lucius, John & Edw. Fuller".

These are three sons of Lucius Seymour Fuller (27 Mar 1812, Hampton, Windham Co., CT - 14 Nov 1890, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT), and Mary Eliza Bliss (Birth 27 APR 1812, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT - 25 SEP 1899, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT).  Both John and Lucius are named for earlier sons who died in infantcy.

No date is given by the inscription, but the youngest brother in the photo, Edward appears to be about 6 years old, so the year the photo was taken is about 1859.  The print appears to be a photo of an original Daguerrotype or wet plate print, and was probably printed in about 1890.

INBond-45-both-Lucius Henry Fuller (1849-1933), 14 Apr 1881-750.jpg

IMG #INBond-45 - Cabinet Card, 14 Apr 1881 (date marked on the back of matching card INBond-46 taken of his brother): Lucius Henry Fuller (31 Aug 1849, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT - 16 Mar 1933, Putnam, Windham Co., CT).  The front is printed: "DeLamater  Hartford, Conn."  The back has a large stamp in red ink that reads: "DeLamater, Hartford, Conn."  The back is also inscribed in pencil: "Lucius Henry Fuller".

INBond-45 and INBond-46 have identical cards, and appear to have been taken at the same time, i.e., April 14, 1881, according to the inscription on the back of INBond-46.

INBond-47, INBond-48 and INBond-49 are uniformly mounted and the subject is wearing the same clothes, and therefore were undoubtedly taken during one session.

His face is much wider than in INBond-46, but does not appear to be over about 40 years old, so these photos are thought to have been about 1890.

IMG #INBond-50- Cabinet Card, c.1893: Lucius Henry Fuller (31 Aug 1849, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT - 16 Mar 1933, Putnam, Windham Co., CT).  The front is printed: Smith & Warren, Fuller Building, Putnam, Conn."  The back is inscribed in pencil: "L.H.F."

INBond-50 and INBond-51 are uniformly mounted and the subject is wearing the same clothes, and therefore were undoubtedly taken during one session, apparently only a short time after INBond-47 through INBond-49 - about long enough to grow back his moustache -  the year is guessed to be about 1893.

IMG #INBond-52- Cabinet Card, c.1893: Lucius Henry Fuller (31 Aug 1849, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT - 16 Mar 1933, Putnam, Windham Co., CT).  The front is printed: McIntyre, Studios: Putnam and Danielsonville, Conn."  The back is inscribed in pencil: "L.H.F."

INBond-52, INBond-55 and INBond-56 are all from the same studio and have indentical cards, but appear to have been taken on three different occasions.

INBond-52 shows him with a moustache but no muttonchops as yet.  This photo is estimated to be c.1893
INBond-55 has him wearing the same coat as in INBond-52, but he has grown a larger moustache and added long muttonchops.  Giving him two years to change his facial hair, this photo is estimated to be c.1895
INBond-56 shows a face and facial hair about identical to those in INBond-55, but he is wearing different apparel.  With similar facial hair as INBond-55, INBond-56 is likewise estimated to be c.1895.

INBond-53-both-Lucius Henry Fuller (1849-1933)-c.1895-750.jpg
IMG #INBond-53- Cabinet Card, c.1895: Lucius Henry Fuller (31 Aug 1849, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT - 16 Mar 1933, Putnam, Windham Co., CT).  The front is printed: Smith & Warren, Fuller Building, Putnam, Conn."  The back is inscribed in pencil: "L.H.F."

This is another photograph from the Fuller Building photographers, and he doesn't look much over 40 years old.  Enough time has passed since INBond-51 and INBond-52 that he has added his long muttonchops, so is guessed to have been about 1895.

He appears about the same as in INBond-53, so the date is estimated as the same, about 1895.

INBond-57-both-Lucius Henry Fuller (1849-1933)-c.1900-750.jpg
IMG #INBond-57- Unmounted photographic print (~5"x7"), c.1900: Lucius Henry Fuller (31 Aug 1849, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT - 16 Mar 1933, Putnam, Windham Co., CT).  The print is not marked as to photographer.  The back is inscribed in pencil: "Lucius Henry Fuller".

The size of this print is 5"x7", but the image size is 4"x5½" - about the size of image that would be mounted on a cabinet card (4¼"x6½" card).  This photo, therefore, may have been taken about 1895-1900, but printed about 1900.

INBond-58-Lucius Henry Fuller (1849-1933)-c.1910-750.jpg
IMG #INBond-58- Photographic print (~4"x5¾") on cream-colored card (~5"x7"), c.1910: Lucius Henry Fuller (31 Aug 1849, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT - 16 Mar 1933, Putnam, Windham Co., CT).  The print is not marked as to photographer, nor is the back is inscribed, as are so many of the photos in the collection.

He appears to have more wrinkles around the eyes and also calipers above his moustache, so this photo is estimated to be c.1910.  He is wearing the same coat that he wears in INBond-50, INBond-51, INBond-53 and INBond-54.  This photo is estimated to have been taken about 1910.

INBond-59-both-Lucius Henry Fuller (1849-1933)-c.1910-750.jpg
IMG #INBond-59- Photographic print (~4"x5½") on gray-colored card (~5"x7"), c.1910: Lucius Henry Fuller (31 Aug 1849, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT - 16 Mar 1933, Putnam, Windham Co., CT).  The print is embossed on the front: "Smith & Warren, Fuller Building, Putnam, Conn."  The back is inscribed in pencil, as usual: "L.H.F.", as are so many of the photos in the collection.

He appears very similar to the image in INBond-58, so this photo is likewise estimated to have been made c.1910.  For Smith & Warren, it definitely represents the style more modern than a cabinet card.

INBond-60-both-Lucius Henry Fuller (1849-1933)-c.1920-750.jpg
IMG #INBond-60- Photographic print (~4"x5½") on cream-colored card (~6"x8"), c.1920: Lucius Henry Fuller (31 Aug 1849, Tolland, Tolland Co., CT - 16 Mar 1933, Putnam, Windham Co., CT).  The mounting card is embossed on the front: "Gillman, 93 Elm St., Putnam, Conn."  The back is inscribed in pencil, as usual: "L.H.F.", as are so many of the photos in the collection.

INBond-60 and INBond-61 are both marked "Gillman" as the photographer, and he is wearing the same white tie outfit, so were undoubtedly made at the same sitting.  He appears, for the first time in these photos, to have grayed, so this photo is  estimated to have been made c.1920.

INBond-61-both-Lucius Henry Fuller (1849-1933)-c.1920-750.jpg
