Shipping Crate - c. 1890
Notes: This
shipping crate probably survived being tossed because of its size - it
was made to fit about four 14x17" plate holders. C. F. McCafferty
is not in the Checklist of Western Photographers, Carl Mautz, 1975, so
it is possible that he or she was an amateur. Whoever it was, they
that liked their negatives large. Copperopolis is in Calaveras
Co., CA - somewhere there are 14x17" negatives of gold mining or
California mining towns.
