Darlot Opticien (Paris, France)
Darlot
View Lens (single achromat) Variation 2
(straight barrel, rotating
stops, lens hood), c. 1890's
Type 1 - lens hood
is a separate piece; it has a larger diameter than the barrel and screws
in.

Type
2 - lens hood is the same diameter as the barrel and is not a separate
piece of the lens.

Notes: This
lens is marked Darlot and is a single achromat, but does not seem to be advertised in any of the
catalogs herein. This is a typical single achromat, where the
largest aperture useful for photography is considerably smaller
than the diameter of the glass, as the fixed aperture visible in the
straight-on photograph shows. Smaller apertures can be selected
via a rotating wheel. It is presumed that the example above in
which the lens hood is a separate piece is the earlier form of the lens.
