Focusing Lens Variation 1 - c. 1880's

Notes:

This lens appears to be a rapid rectilinear type that has been put into a barrel that has a focusing component: the peg can be kept against the collar and a fine focus can be achieved from the gently shortening part of the collar.  It occurred on a focusing camera (a 4x5 76 Camera), so it may be a way to obtain a finer focus than that of which the camera is capable.
