This is presumably the first catalog printed after Scovill Mfg. Co. became The Scovill & Adams Co.  The first eight pages of the normal "How to ..." catalog (see e.g., Scovill's September 1888 catalog) is missing here, as is the index at the back.  These pages may have never been present, as there is no indication of their having been removed, although it is difficult to tell given the condition of the spine.
