Cover only of Photographic Apparatus 1898 Manufactured by Rochester Camera Co., Rochester, N.Y.
This is a catalog, designated LP1156, which is identical to the catalog designated LP316: Photographic Apparatus Manufactured by Rochester Camera & Supply Co., Rochester, N.Y., 1899. The only differences to LP316 are: 1) the stamped dealer on the Rochester Camera & Supply Co. cover is "The Dickenson Co., 111 Nassau St., New York", and 2) LP1156 was associated with an extra cover from Rochester Camera Co. 1898.
The 1899 bound
catalog appears to have had the 1898 cover glued over the bound cover at
the spine only. This seems to be the case because depth of the spine of
the extra cover is precisely the same as the depth of the spine of the
still bound booklet, and also because of correlation of the locations of
chips and separations on the spines of the two covers. The extra cover
reads "Photographic Apparatus 1898 Manufactured by Rochester Camera Co.,
Rochester, N.Y.; for
sale by C. Lawalls Son & Co., Easton, PA."
The extra cover
would seem to be the cover for the previous year (1898), when the
company that would be called Rochester Camera & Supply was still called
Rochester Camera Co. Why the older cover would be glued on top of the
newer cover is a mystery. Perhaps to retain brand loyalty in an era of
many names that included the word Rochester in them. Surely it would
make more sense if the newer cover were glued onto the previous year's
catalog. But it was not.
Due to the delicate condition of the booklet, only the extra cover was
scanned. The other images on this page are from LP316.
