Illustrated Catalogue of Photographic
Apparatus 1892 The Rochester Optical Co. catalog of 1890 was 36 pages; the catalog of 1891 was 40 pages; the catalog of 1892 was 48 pages - a trend indicating slow growth. Two cameras are present that were not present in the May 1891 catalog: The Folding Premier (Variation 1 with a shutter inside the front standard, and The Katchette. By the 56 page 1893 catalog, The Katchette had been re-named The Katch. This is a catalog made of folded pages bound by three staples, an inexpensive way to print a small catalog. In a folded pamphlet or booklet, the first piece of paper after the cover consists of the lowest numbered pages sharing the same sheet with the highest numbered pages. Normally, page 1, with page 2 on its back side, shares one sheet of paper with pages 47 and 48. But in this case, it is pages 5 and 6 that share a sheet with pages 47 and 48. Pages 1-4 are missing. The missing pages probably would have contained (as deduced by examinging the 1891 and 1893 catalogs) the following : Page 1 - a title page, including the month as well as year of publication, Pages 2-4 - The Carlton View and The Universal View.
